Vice President Releases Book ‘Religion, Law & Society-Across the Globe’

imageReligion, Law & Society- Across the Globe”, a book authored by Prof. Tahir Mahmood was released by The Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari. The book provides insights into a range of complex and inter-linked matters of constitutional and socio-legal importance.

Prof. Tahir Mahmood:

  • Renowned jurist well-known for his expertise in religion and the law, human rights and civil liberties, particularly the law pertaining to the educational rights of minorities.
  • He held various prestigious positions like: Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi; Chairman, National Commission for Minorities; Member, National Human Rights Commission; and Jurist-Member, Ranganath Misra Commission.
  • A member of the Law Commission of India from 2006-10.
  • Professor Mahmood is the first Muslim to be named to the Law Commission of India and he was the only permanent member of the Eighteenth Commission.

Dadasaheb Phalke award for legendary actor Pran

image Pran Krishan Sikand, popularly known as Pran, will be conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

Pran is the 60th film personality to receive this honour.  In 2011, Soumitra Chatterjee was honored with this award and then in the year 2012, no one was conferred this award.

Pran has acted in more than 350 films from 1942 – 2007 and is known as a movie villain and character actor in Hindi cinema.

Dadasaheb Phalke Award:

  • India’s highest award in cinema
  • Conferred yearly by the Government of India for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema.
  • Award comprises a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a cash prize of INR 1 million and a shawl.
