The ‘India Sports Summit- Fitness: $10 Billion Opportunity’ was held on 10 October 2019 in New Delhi. It was organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in partnership with Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS), Sportscom, and Sportskeeda
Key Highlights of Summit
Objective: It is focused on driving objective of ‘Sports and Industry’ through various initiatives, advocating for new policies for the sector, encourage investments in the sector of sports, create roadmap in encouraging fitness programmes in school education and industry participation in the FIT INDIA Movement.
Participation: It was attended by many noted names from Sports Fraternity and governing bodies.
Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju’s Address: He noted that if every Indian starts paying attention to sports, every sport will become an industry. He also stressed on the need for building sports culture, creating opportunities for youth, partnerships between Ministries and corporates to leverage potential of 10 billion dollar fitness industry. He also reiterated importance of citizen involvement to fully leverage potential of fitness as an opportunity in India.

The 6th Indian Social Work Congress was held in New Delhi. It was joinly organized by National Association of Professional Social Workers in India (NAPSWI) and Department of Social Work (Delhi School of Social Work), University of Delhi. Dr. Martha Farrell posthumously honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award during this edition of congress for her lifelong work towards gender equality, women’s empowerment and prevention of sexual harassment at workplace.
The theme of 6th ISWC 2018 was “Human Development and Social Inclusion: Imperatives for Social Work Education and Practice”. This theme takes into consideration contemporary concerns of local to international community within present context and in consonance with the social work value framework.
6th ISWC2016 aimed to
- Provide platform to social work professionals to discuss and deliberate on issues related to human development.
- Engage with issues related to Social Justice and Inclusion, within context of social work education, research and practice.
- Address diverse issues and challenges pertaining to human development and social justice vis-à-vis social work profession in rapidly transforming socio-political and economic landscape.
- Exchange experiences of social work educators, researchers and development practitioners to augment networks and coalitions of social workers for invigorating social work profession.
